Pelican Bay at Lucaya Hotel, Freeport, Bahamas

Photograph of Pelican Bay at Lucaya HotelThe Pelican Bay at Lucaya Hotel is one of Grand Bahama Island’s newest boutique hotels, and my personal favorite. The 90-room hotel and the 96-suite Pelican Bay Suites offer a combination of Bahamian and European architecture and service. A mixture of Caribbean island flavor and unique island style architecture combine to create the Pelican Bay at Lucaya Hotel. Nestled at water’s edge, tucked away on a peninsula where you can forget the hustle and bustle, enjoy the beach, and yet remain close to all of the shopping and activities of the Lucaya Marketplace and resort area, Pelican Bay at Lucaya is an obvious choice for a Bahama vacation.

Pelican Bay is a romantic place. Couples looking for a dreamy getaway, a first or second honeymoon, or for a custom-designed wedding will love the quiet atmosphere and considerate service. There’s no need to set the alarm. Instead, you’ll be awakened by the aroma of fresh-baked pastries that are placed in an old-fashioned pass-through in your front door each morning. No knocks intrude on your peace; it’s just there when you awaken and are ready for your morning espresso. Yes, there’s an espresso machine in the breakfast corner of your suite. Then, you can relax on your balcony, watching the dive boats on their way to the reefs and prepare for a day of fun.

The 640-square-foot guest rooms have Italian-tiled floors and either two double beds or one king bed. Amenities include cable TV, direct dial telephones, coffee- and tea-making facilities and private balconies or patios. The suites are a spacious 750 square feet and include a living room with pullout sofa beds, breakfast corner, bath suite, bedroom, balcony and a work area with dual telephone lines and modem jack/data port.

Immediately across the street are two miles of white sand beach, a full service spa, all four "Grand Slam" surface tennis courts and a casino and, two of the finest golf courses in the entire Caribbean.

The hotel is awarded the prestigious "Small Treasures of the Bahamas" designation by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.
